Family Mediation

Family Mediation is a sensitive, confidential process in which a trained and impartial mediator helps a couple to look at any problems they may wish to resolve in the context of separation or divorce and to try to reach mutually acceptable terms for settling the issues between them. The Mediator will help the couple to examine the issues, explore options for dealing with them and find their own solutions. This will include assisting in getting proper financial disclosure so that decisions may be made on an informed basis. Divorce Mediation is usually undertaken with the couple in joint meetings, though after discussion and if everyone agrees, the Mediator may arrange separate meetings.
Why use a lawyer-mediator? Lawyer-mediators bring to the process years of experience of what works and what may not work. They are able to tell a couple if they think that any proposed terms would fall outside the limits of what a court would approve. However, lawyer-mediators will not impose any terms or promote any particular course. They will use their skills and experience to help a couple find their own workable terms.
Our mediators are: Penny Andrew: Penny trained as a family mediator in 1999. She is our lead mediator in cases concerning children. Paul Kemp: Paul trained as a family mediator in 1990. He is our lead mediator in cases involving financial settlements. Our mediators have received training from Resolution (previously the Solicitors Family Law Association) and undertake mediations in compliance with the Resolution Family Mediation Code of Practice Occasionally, two mediators will work together (co-mediate) – particularly where a couple wish to deal with complex children issues and financial settlements in one mediation. If you are interested in family mediation … Talk to Us For an initial discussion with one of the Mediators call:
These are direct lines to our Mediators. If they are unable to take your call, please leave a message and they will get back to you as soon as possible. Talk to your Partner It is a good idea to discuss mediation with your partner — perhaps suggesting that he or she should look at this web-site page. Talk to your Solicitor If you already have a solicitor, he or she may have suggested mediation as a way of resolving problems without the expense of fighting the case in Court. We are happy to accept referrals from solicitors. If you both agree, we can contact your respective solicitors and pass information to them. You can ask your solicitor for legal advice at any stage during the mediation process Although solicitors do not usually attend mediation meetings, in some circumstances (and if you both agree) they may be invited to do so If you have already decided that mediation is for you and your spouse/partner then click below to find the on-line referral forms: Referral Form (Fill the form in online and send it via this website) |
